As the July 4th holiday approaches, more people will be on the highway this year than last year, so be extra vigilant and expect delays.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that the Fourth of July is one of the deadliest days on the road due to alcohol use.

Designate a Driver or Find Alternative Means of Transportation

If your celebration will involve drinking, assign a designated driver who will not be drinking at all. If you don’t have a designated driver, call a taxi or use a rideshare option, such as Lyft or Uber. These great options will ensure that you will have a safe trip.

Drive Defensively

With more people traveling out of town,  remember that many people may not be familiar with their surroundings, so be patient and drive defensively. Obey posted speed limits. Give drivers in front of you a three-second distance and be prepared to stop unexpectedly. The goal is to always be aware of the vehicles surrounding you and react appropriately to them.

Happy Independence Day!
